Getting started with Google Analytics & SEO

Google Analytics & SEO

are two distinct put interrelated disciplines used by marketing and data analysis professionals.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

is an art and science unto itself. There are firms which only do SEO. I have been Image of a graph trending upwardsa practitioner of SEO for a few years now. The only thing I know, is I learn something new every day. Therefore I practice at Analytics & SEO. Integration into your WordPress site will increase the effectiveness of the tools.

There is a secret sauce to SEO, Google is the only one who truly know all the answers. Many so called experts profess to know the answer, I call balderdash!. Google changes the algorithms constantly. The MOZ blog, of all the SEO experts just about has it figured out, not completely. They are a great resource for learning and applying processes to enhance a sites SEO. One of my favorite learning tools is White board Friday.

The goal of SEO is to have your site listed as close to the top of the first page of Google search results. A person or company can spend a ton of hours tweaking their content trying to get a higher ranking. The truth of the matter is a well panned out combination of sound SEO practices and well thought out and applied paid advertising program will get your business customers.

If you can’t afford to buy your customers, you don’t have a business.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics provides data collection and management. The tool set available to webmasters is comprehensive and flexible. Google offers endless Google Analytics logoSDK’s and API’s for the developer. Customization is only limited by the developer or markets imagination. The platform features java script libraries, mobile app SDK’s for iOS and Android.

Data import extends the ability to bring in data from outside sources for use within the analytics tool or combine with custom programming through the use of API’s.

As a result of the collection of data a robust collection of reports can be created for analysis and visualization. The reporting within Google Analytics is robust and customizable . For those who need more you can see your data in AdWords, Firebase, AdMob and DoubleClick to name a few.

This just scratches the surface of the capabilities of this wonderful tool provided to webmasters free of charge.

In conclusion I can say that I will always be learning and investigating how to apply Google analytics & SEO.

Setting up WordPress LEMP and Digital Ocean Droplet

Setting up the WordPress LEMP stack was interesting and a challenge at times

As a power user of WordPress this exercise was a wake up call. A LAMP stack on my local machine is for testing and general development work. The set up of the LAMP was a few clicks, a couple of tweaks and I was up and running. Setting up the LEMP was another exercise altogether.

Droplet setup was straight forward and fairly simple from my perspective. Setting up the WordPress LEMP was a true wake up call. The first time through, I thought I could do this with no guidance. I have used BASH and PuTTY in the past, easy peazy! Um, no!

So the second time through (yes the second time) I followed the tutorial and was able to set it up without too many frustrations. Editing the configuration files was a goat rodeo for me at first. But found my rhythm and the skills returned.

The SSL certificate was a new process for me as well. I have had the luxury of Click, click, done. as a result, It was interesting to go through the steps and enter all the information in the SSH terminal. I learned quite a bit of how the sausage is made.

I did have a few failures with the FTP set up. After some trail and error and digging in I found the issues repaired them and have FileZilla set up and running like a Swiss watch.

I added the plugins required from the assignment Yost and Monster Insights.  It is especially relevant setting up your Google Analyticsaccount and adding the site is a prerequisite to adding these plugins. and a site mapping tool. As a result it makes the registration on the search engines an easier process.

As a result of this process I learned to appreciate “how to do it old school”. If I need to I can, with confidence, install a WordPress stack and be up and running in no time!
